Follow the undulating summits of the willow walls that take you, as if you were carried by waves, to the centre of the garden. There floats a great boat tree, symbol of the travels of mankind and of the vegetable kingdom. With its sail-like tree, a Cornus controversa pivoting slowly on its axis, this vessel carries you on its trip around the world.
Heading out in the footsteps of La Pérouse, it pays tribute to the great explorers who criss-crossed the globe to discover and bring back unknown plants: François-Amédée Frézier who acclimatized the strawberry (called “fraise” in french) in Plougastel, Brittany, Jean Nicot who offered tobacco (also called Nicotania) to Queen Catherine de Medici to treat her migraines.
